Skin Itch
Written on January 30, 2009 by Reuben
You get the itch and run off to the dermatologist to get it checked and you find out there’s nothing wrong, so what gives? Stress, for stress has a very distinct effect on our physiology that the body can react in very unpredictable ways, yes even your itchy skin. One of the reasons for this is that high stress levels may reduce the anti-microbial abilities of your skin lessening its effectivity against the simplest invaders. The skin, as we know is the human body’s largest organ and serves as our first defense against the dangerous world we live in. Our skin is like a breathable jacket that lets sweat out but leaves all other vital fluids in. that’s why a scratch or scrape can be a bit more irritating than a cut. The more surface of your skin is affected, the more nerve endings are exposed so the pain.
As said, stress can affect the human body in many different ways enough to lower your immunity to most of the bacteria and viruses we live with each and every day. The common flu takes hold easily when one is stressed that when they are healthy and happy. So next time you get the itch with no reason, try to relax and pamper yourself a bit, you’ll be amazed at what a bit of R&R can do for you and your skin!
